In sticking to the abstract theme, I began shooting some smoke in studio with dual strobes. It was interesting to see all the detail brought out of the wisps of smoke due to the strobes. I discovered that my incense sticks with their red outer coating created both red and blue smoke which combines to make purple. When boosting the vibrancy in Photoshop, these photos really popped.
Combining the experience from the last abstract photography experiment, Dust Abstract Photography, mirroring the photo and/or inverting it creates patterns in the randomness. Sometimes in the smoke I see faces, animals, or silhouettes. This pattern recognition has been important to humankind for as long as we have been around. I think that is what makes this form of photography so interesting. You see what you want to see.
